CTP is the technology of posing from computer to the pattern directly.

In the printing technology that’s advancing and progressing rapidly in recent years, it is a fact that CTP and digital technology are on the lead. These days, the companies that manufacture printing machines have fought and have been fighting for advancing their digital technologies. CTP is the technology of posing from computer to the pattern directly. This means that this system eliminates the filming and montage phases that are used in almost all printing houses even now.

CTP eliminates this time taking parts (filming-montage) and time and filming cost is utilized by posing the computer prepared work to be printed on the pattern directly. However, because the pattern used in this technology does not advance as fast as digital, it has not met with great interest in our country. I believe that this technology will become common in our country as it develops.

If you remember, just as the film string delivery machines named CTP imagesetter replaced with the color scanning scanners 8-10 years ago, now CTP pattern exposure will take their place. The opinions of the people who have done research about these matters and who are the relevant experts about CTP is that this is early for deciding on CTP (especially for our printing houses). The reasons for this are both technological and economical. Because when the cost is researched, it can turn out to be horrible. However, the superiority and conveniences provided by such an investment should not be forgotten. They should be considered while making prudential plans.

Generally, this is the name given for the system in which the work which is wished to be printed is directly sent in a colorful or colorless way without needing a special pattern, film or stereotype for the color separation systems and the printing can be made.

Like all the printing systems, the digital printing process is carried out in the 3 phases under the names of graphic-printing-post-printing.

The film is no longer used in preprinting in digital printing. No bath, no scanning, no test shots. The image is transferred from the camera to the computer and directly to the printing from there. Because the cost of the works with low circulation is automatically driven down, this is preferred especially compared to offset printing. In addition, it also has many advantages in the works with low circulation in terms of time.

Because it is possible to make whether 1 or 1000 printing with the digital system, this is very important to eliminate the elements that we call fixed costs. Promat wants to share their knowledge with anybody who is related to printing arts and technologies in order to enhance the quality in the sector. The information on these pages contains the tips which you, our dear customers, can take into consideration while requesting offers from us or while the graphic designers make their designs.

Color Separation

  • In the pantone, C’s are used for Glossy Papers and U’s are used for Grade.
  • While the screen printing is made, the film must be in the resolution of at least 70 dpi. For the sticker sticking internally, the film must be with reverse emission.
  • In the offset, if the paper used while taking a film, the tram must be at least 80, if the paper pulp is used, the tram must be at least 60.
  • If the film releases with montage in the works with special cuttings, the clearances must be at least 3mm.

  • The paper with the size of 57x82 does not have a basis weight more than 170 gr.
  • It is not more than 170 gr. for the hard cover.
  • The front and back faces of Bristol and some Special papers are different.
  • The standard size of Bristol is 70x100 (except for special sizes).

In the works with surface, varnish needs to be applied in order that the work dries faster and it avoids being sketched. If silver or gold vermeil is used in a work, varnish or lamination must be definitely applied.

  • Cellophane less than 135 gr. is not possible.
  • Cellophane may not be applied for the special papers. Local Lac may be possible.
  • Lamination must be applied for the works with plastering.
  • Cellophane is made to avoid cracking from breaking places in the works with darker ground.
  • Lac and varnish do not avoid cracking.

  • While making Perfect Bound, both-sided Cellophane is not possible for the cover. Only Front Cellophane is made (While making Perfect Bound, lamination must be definitely applied for the cover, otherwise, the work will be scratched).
  • At least 170 gr. is used in the plastering.
  • To make wire sewing, it must be in the signature order and multiples of 4.
  • In placing a cover (Perfect Bound) the cover less than 170 gr. is not possible.
  • The glossy paper with ground must not be used as endpaper. If it is used, cellophane must be applied. Otherwise, it will crack. High grade paper pulp is recommended (At least 160 gr.).
